Recently we looked at aspects of prayer: Confident Praying and The Sovereign God Moved by Prayer?  Today I would like to give one example of something that you can pray about confidently and know that God will answer affirmatively.

Psalm 31:1 In You, O LORD, I have taken refuge; Let me never be ashamed; In Your righteousness deliver me.

David prays that in his troubling situation he would not be “ashamed.” David is staking everything in his circumstances on the LORD. He has taken refuge in the Lord. Have you ever been in a situation where you were trusting the LORD and in the back of your mind you considered the possibility of being ashamed for doing so when it is all said and done? When we have these thoughts we must do exactly what David did: Communicate in prayer to the LORD that we are trusting Him completely and desire that we not be ashamed for so doing. The reason we can pray that request confidently is that multiple other verses in Scripture assure us that we will never be ashamed if we take refuge in the Lord!

Isaiah 28:16 Therefore thus says the Lord GOD, “Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a tested stone, A costly cornerstone for the foundation, firmly placed. He who believes in it will not be disturbed.

Romans 9:33 just as it is written, “BEHOLD, I LAY IN ZION A STONE OF STUMBLING AND A ROCK OF OFFENSE, AND HE WHO BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.”

Romans 10:10-11  for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.  11 For the Scripture says, “WHOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.”

1 Peter 2:6  For this is contained in Scripture: “BEHOLD, I LAY IN ZION A CHOICE STONE, A PRECIOUS CORNER stone, AND HE WHO BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.”

We will not get to eternity and be put to shame for trusting Christ alone for salvation. We will not get to heaven and be ashamed that we trusted God in the daily responsibilities and circumstances we encounter. Trust God when the culture around you says He does not exist, when your heart starts questioning His goodness, and when you are weary.  We will never be ashamed in eternity, and there is no reason to be ashamed now as we live for the glory of God. We can call out to God to vindicate all our trust in Him knowing that He will. We are free to trust God implicitly without any fear that we will be put to shame for doing so. So trust, take refuge, delight in your weakness and His strength, be like a little child looking to their Father in the face of things they cannot handle; For all eternity you will not be ashamed that you did so.
