This last Sunday in John 17:6-11a we focused in on why Jesus prays for His disciples. The major reason is that if you are a child of God, you are the possession of both the Father and the Son, therefore Jesus prays for you. Below is the text that we considered together along with some cross references that reinforce the fact that as a child of God you are possessed by Him and prayed for by Jesus your High Priest. Its Wednesday and many things have already taken place in this week. Let these Words wash over your soul and reorient you to what is true about your standing before God in Christ Jesus:
  • John 17:6-11  “I have manifested Your name to the men whom You gave Me out of the world; they were Yours and You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word.  7 “Now they have come to know that everything You have given Me is from You;  8 for the words which You gave Me I have given to them; and they received them and truly understood that I came forth from You, and they believed that You sent Me.  9 “I ask on their behalf; I do not ask on behalf of the world, but of those whom You have given Me; for they are Yours;  10 and all things that are Mine are Yours, and Yours are Mine; and I have been glorified in them.  11 “I am no longer in the world; and yet they themselves are in the world, and I come to You.
  • Ephesians 1:13-14  n Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation– having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise,  14 who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God’s own possession, to the praise of His glory.
  • Titus 2:13-14  looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus,  14 who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds
  • Deuteronomy 32:9  “For the LORD’S portion is His people; Jacob is the allotment of His inheritance.
  • Ephesians 1:18  I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints,
  • 1 John 2:1-2   My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous;  2 and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world.
  • Hebrews 7:25  Therefore He is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.
  • Romans 8:33-34  Who will bring a charge against God’s elect? God is the one who justifies;  34 who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is He who died, yes, rather who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us.
  • Hebrews 4:14 – 16 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.  15 For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin.  16 Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
